Bee Week 09

April 30, 2009

30 April 2009

‘I love honey and this week is Bee Week, but honey is not the main benefit that bees bring to our lives.  Bees are crucial for pollination of over 75% of our food crops however every year the bee population is decreasing and I am pleased to help bring awareness Bee Week and how we can help bees survive.’

Tukituki MP Craig Foss will not only be attending a function at The Beehive but he will be giving a signed copy of ‘Sting’, a story about a bee written by New Zealand author Raymond Huber, to  Flaxmere Primary School

‘Education is the primary focus of Bee Week’, says Mr Foss. ‘It has become clear that bees need human intervention to survive and teaching the kids about the great things that bees do ensures that they will be plentiful for years to come. On top of that The Bay’s economy owes a lot to the humble bee; lets get in behind this cause’
