Hawke’s Bay Healthy Homes

Tukituki MP Craig Foss is thrilled that residents of Hawke’s Bay are taking up the EnergyWise Home Grants programme to get their homes warm for the coming winter.

“The grants, available through the Hawke’s Bay Healthy Homes programme, are available to help people get their homes insulated.  A lady recently approached me concerned that her child had health problems that were exacerbated by living in a cold damp house. I was more than happy to point her in the right direction to get assistance and she has since told me that she has already noticed a difference in her home.”

The scheme funds improvements to insulation and other energy efficiency measures for low-income households whose residents have respiratory conditions. Mr Foss believes that with winter approaching and the cost of heating our homes rising that the programme will be invaluable

“We are all aware that our health is affected by living in cold damp living conditions.  There are criteria that must be met to obtain the grant but they are not restrictive.  People’s health and well-being comes first and it is often the under-privileged that can least afford the cost of extra heating and the extra cost of health care in winter. I encourage people to call Hawke’s Bay Healthy Homes on 0800 777 111 to see if they are eligible for assistance.”
