Craig Foss and Chris Tremain wish Paul Baker from the National Rural Fire Authority and Malcolm Smith, Department of Conservation; Wairoa, the best of luck for their deployment to Victoria to help contain the state’s bushfires.
It is understood that Baker and Smith have been selected, alongside 55 other team members, for their remote high country and forestry firefighting experience.
‘We are proud that two of our local firefighters have been selected in this latest deployment’ said Craig Foss MP for Tukituki. ‘This will be both a dangerous job and a highlight of their career for these firefighters’.
““I understand that it is their strong work ethic, high standards and recent experience from the Mahia fire that has led to their selection,’ adds Napier MP Chris Tremain. ‘ We, as a region, are delighted that they have been recognised as leaders; however the enormity and breadth of the task ahead cannot go unmentioned”
The firefighters will leave from Whenuapai Air Force Base in Auckland on Wednesday after an official farewell by the Minister of Civil Defence John Carter.
