Hawke’s Bay MP’s Craig Foss and Chris Tremain will this evening be at the Bay Rowing Club to congratulate the medal-winning contingent who recently attended the Youth Olympic Rowing Festival in Penrith Australia. Two gold medals went to Julia Trauvetter, one to Julie Edward while Jason Kitchen won two silver medals.
The MP’s will also take the opportunity to wish the club all the best at the North Island Championships to be held this weekend at Lake Karapiro.
“We are thrilled to see the Hawke’s Bay Rowing Club doing so well,’ said Foss. ‘It is one of the oldest clubs in New Zealand and importantly hosts the oldest regatta. We are here to congratulate and encourage both the competitors and the behind the scene support team. They do a fantastic job of supporting young rowers and we wish them all the best.’
The Hawke’s Bay Rowing Club has a reputation for producing world-class rowers including the household names such as Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell and world junior champ Emma Twigg. Though the club is small by national standards it has a knack of punching above its weight; just last weekend it took out the prestigious Cambridge Town Cup.
‘This club shows what a small province like Hawke’s Bay can achieve if we put our minds to it,‘ adds Tremain. ‘We are very proud of all the members and will continue to watch their progress keenly”
