Connecting Across the Economy

March 31, 2010

“It was my pleasure to be part of the launch of publication “Connecting Across the Economy”, March 30th in Wellington” where Hawke’s Bay received a glowing report”  said  local MP Craig Foss.  ”It is always a pleasure when Central Government and local Government agencies can come together to ensure strong regional ties and also ensuring that regions are helped to reach their full potential” said Craig
At the launch Minister, Hon. Dr. Wayne Mapp made particular mention of Venture Hawke’s Bay’s “Grow the Bay” business initiative that grew out of the need to build recession resilience.

Napier Engineering and Contracting (NEC), was identified from earlier Venture Hawke’s Bay work as a key regional company for involvement in Grow the Bay and features in the report. NEC’s  focus on productivity gains have allowed the company to pursue export growth.

Apple Futures is another strong example of a cross region project that received praise in the report. At the heart of this project is a partnership between PipfruitNZ and the regions of Hawke’s Bay, Otago and Nelson that grow 85 percent of export pipfruit.

“This is exciting stuff for us all in our region. It’s all about Growing the Bay and celebrating the resulting success.“ said Craig.
