EIT students benefit from Government Grant

November 19, 2009

“EIT Hawke’s Bay will receive funding for an extra 154 students in 2010,’ says Napier MP Chris Tremain. “EIT has qualified for a good portion of the Tertiary Education Commission funds available to institutions nationwide; that’s fantastic for the young people of Hawke’s Bay”

“Allocation of the funds is based on the success of the programmes offered by the various institutions, and on the demand for the graduates,” said Tukituki MP Craig Foss.” Being allocated 154 students, or 22% of the available resource, is a huge pat on the back for EIT Hawke’s Bay.”

EIT Hawke’s Bay was one of 20 institutes nationwide to put in applications for the 700 places available.

“Training of our young people is a high priority for this Government,” said Mr Tremain. “This funding goes to higher level courses such as diplomas and degrees and it is great that we keep our young people here in The Bay to complete their tertiary education”

“EIT graduates are in hot demand,’ said Mr Foss. “The courses are highly regarded and provide a fantastic launching pad for our young people’s careers”.

“EIT Hawke’s Bay is a significant player in our regional economy and its success is to be supported,” adds Mr Tremain. “Moreover EIT’s impact on the local workforce and population demographics means that the institution’s interests are the cornerstone of any strategic decisions about the Bay’s future.”
