John Key Supporting the Magpies
July 15, 2009
While in The Bay, Prime Minister, John Key will meet with a group of Havelock North High School students who, through taking part in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme, have designed and marketed Magpie Supporters socks.
Profits from the sales will go to the family of slain policeman Len Snee
The group’s managing director Emma Wake, says the socks were inspired by the Peter Blake Red Socks appeal, and have been a huge success.
“Giving a pair of Black and White socks to our Prime Minister and our local MP’s will be a highlight,’ she says.
Not only have this group set up a business that supports a local team they have also set up a charity that will channel profits from the business to the family of Mr Snee.
“These kids have done an amazing job of getting the community behind them,” said Tukituki MP Craig Foss. “They have built on an idea and taken it one step further, I understand they have got the support of our local Mitre 10 to sell these socks through their outlets. That requires initiative, a well thought out plan and integrity.”
Napier MP Chris Tremain says that the group has taken the opportunity provided by the Young Enterprise Scheme and excelled,
“In effect they have picked up the ball and run with it. I have been impressed with their concept of supporting a local team while at the same time acknowledging and supporting the family of Len Snee, who was himself a keen rugby supporter.”
