MPs looking forward to the Waiata Maori Awards 2010
August 24, 2010
The Hawke’s Bay Opera House on September 9, 10 and 12 will host the 3rd annual Waiata Maori Awards.
“The search is on to find the best Maori has to offer the music world – from urban, hip-hop, pop and reggae to show bands and iconic composers –which will all be celebrated at a national gala event right here in Hawke’s Bay,” said MP for Tukituki Craig Foss.
“The awards theme this year is reflecting the new spring season, new life and new beginnings. As Hawke’s Bay recovers from a difficult period, this topic couldn’t be more appropriate,” adds Napier MP Chris Tremain.
The event is used to develop and promote Maori music and is focused on the diversity and excellence of Maori music in New Zealand.
Chris says “The Maori culture has a richness that we all embrace. From when the Haka is performed by The All Blacks to when we go to our local schools to watch the Kapa Haka groups; The Waiata Maori Awards is an extension to what we all support now.”
“The Waiata Maori Awards launch is to be held this Thursday, 26th August. Both Chris and I fully support this event and wish all who are involved a great start to what will be a treat for us all,” says Craig.
